Five best-in-class Christmas experiences

It’s Christmas…to say we’re slightly excited would be an understatement. To kick of the festivities we wanted to share 5 of the best Christmas campaigns that we’ve seen. Get ready for a little bit of magic and a whole lot of tear-jerking emotional videos.

Covent Garden x Blippar

Over the past few years there has been this shift toward “retailtainment” in that people do not see shopping as just a transaction service anymore, they are looking for experiences as much as they are material items. To do this Covent Garden partnered with Blippar, the creative AR company, to deliver a memorable shopping experience for its visitors. Covent Garden was  transformed into an AR-enhanced shopping destination, involving virtual treasure hunts, customisable search and mapping and digitally unlocked discounts, gift guides and table-booking access. The use of tech within this campaign is excellent but how it tells the story and increase dwell time by using AR treasure hunts, scannable stickers and rewards was brilliantly done.

A build on this would be to remove the necessity to download an app as this can be a barrier for customers. Still though, with a media reach of 3.6 million and 8 blippars per person once downloaded this campaign was very much a success.

WestJet Christmas Miracle: Uniting Through Traditions

Of all the Christmas traditions around the world, one rises high above. Christmas should be spent with the ones that you love. So, in the spirit of Christmas WestJet continued their long standing tradition of creating tear jerking, emotionally inspired Christmas videos. They created a surprise that their lucky guests will remember for the rest of their lives.

Coca-Cola: Share a White Christmas

Famous for bringing the festive spirit to life every year, Coca-Cola set off on a mission to bring the unimaginable to life. In sunny Singapore, a white Christmas is something you can only dream about. Coca-Cola placed two machines at opposite ends of the world – one in Singapore’s busiest shopping district, the other in Finnish Lapland. With technology and a little holiday magic, Finns shared snow with unsuspecting Singaporeans, and a moment of happiness.

Air Canada – Gift of Home for the Holidays

We’ve got another airline grabbing the headlines here. Air Canada wanted to give Canadians living aboard one of the best gifts imaginable. Cue lots of people crying and celebrating and you’ve got yourself a great piece of content which has been viewed 3.5m times on their YouTube channel.

IKEA – The Other Letter

Tapping into the importance of family and togetherness at Christmas, IKEA’s emotive ‘The Other Letter’ campaign asked children to write two Christmas letters. In addition to the letter to the three kings (the Spanish equivalent of Santa), the children were also asked to write to their parents asking them for something.

Astonishingly, the children didn’t ask for any material goods, rather for their parents’ time. Ikea’s campaign managed to cleverly link to the brand message: the importance of home. Check the video out for the full story.

What’s your favourite Christmas campaign or experience?
